​RURAL OHIO FIGHTING AGAINST FASCISM

Appalachian Edge Ohio Indivisible, a non-profit organization who is fighting to protect our communities and everyone within them, is hosting a Meet the Candidates panel this October with the candidates of Adams County’s 2026 Midterms.

The panel is a non-partisan effort to ensure folks have the chance to meet and ask their candidates questions and to avoid bias as well as candidates to have a platform to speak to and meet their possible future constituents. This is the best time for Adams County Ohioans to come and ask a question or sit in and listen to what’s being discussed to develop a more informed decision on your votes this November. This election may be one of the most important local elections to show up and vote for who will truly represent us best. All candidates for the following races (listed below) in and for our county have been invited to participate in this Meet the Candidates panel.

At this event, candidates will be sat in chairs behind a table on a stage with a moderator to the side. If a candidate doesn’t show, their chair will be left empty. Audience members will sign up for a topic on entry of the building. They will also have the option to write a question down to be added to the discussion topic sheet the moderator will have. You will receive a marker, use this marker to show who you are when your name is called upon if you choose to ask out loud. Our moderator will be the one to keep us on track to ensure we get through everything wanted and needed to be discussed. Introductions and candidate statements will be at the beginning and the topic with the most interest will be discussed first leading us in and least will come later on. If we have time, we will have open discussions towards the end.

Topics may include but are not limited to:

Surveillance cameras, data centers, injection wells, education issues (policy, vouchers), security/Medicare/healthcare, war and genocide, property tax, tax abatements (NDA by elected officials), LGBTQ+ issues, election restrictions, small businesses, etc.

Candidates on the panel will prepare themselves with specific questions based on their areas of focus and will have a chance to answer them in front of the people.

Livestream will be available. Attendees virtually will unfortunately not be able to choose a topic or ask a question.

The panel will be a structured process to ensure consistency, fairness and accuracy. This will help prevent biases and establish that all candidates are assessed against the same criteria and ensure that all candidates are evaluated on their abilities and qualifications as well as personhood.

Rules for attendees and candidates:

• No interruptions during questions and answers. Attendees will get one warning before being removed from the audience.

• If you have something to say or ask regarding the topic of discussion at the time, raise your hand and we could possibly get to you by the end.

• If you are called upon, please state your name and town or village you reside in and then begin your question.

Before and after the panel:

There will be a few tables set up outside of the auditorium before and after the panel. The tables listed below are here for you, please feel free to go up and see what will be there and what you may be interested in or want to ask questions about. Snacks and drinks will be available outside of the auditorium during the duration of the panel.

• New Medicaid Requirement Workshop table will be set up prior to the beginning of the panel and afterwards. During this time you can talk and learn about the changes, issues and concerns of Medicaid in Ohio.

• Local resources table

• There will be an area set up where you can check your sample ballot, polling location and other Ohio voting information. You’ll find educational materials about each political role and what they entail as well and more.

• Those who are putting this panel together will have information about a documentary they are wanting to do about our neighbors in Adams County and our struggle.

Location will be announced as soon as location is confirmed. For just some more information in case anyone was wondering; our group funds are not allowed to go towards these kinds of events so we are not using any of our group's funds for this event. Billboards are expensive, but this? We can do this anywhere anytime. It’ll be our moving billboard.

In August, we raised enough funds for some of the things we've been needing and wanting:

• Update our Appalachian Edge Free Market with shelving, racks, storage boxes, signage and handout materials.

• Harvest and storage/handout supplies for the community aid garden foods

• Bought a portable projector

• Additional folding table

The legal term “genocide” refers to certain acts committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. Genocide is an international crime, according to the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (1948). The acts that constitute genocide fall into five categories:

• Killing members of the group

• Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group

• Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction, in whole or in part

• Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group

• Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group

On October 14th in Mt. Orab at the Mt. Orab Parkour representative along with other leaders in our districts will be attending a rally and prayer vigil for a racist, sexist, transphobic podcaster who was killed last year by the same gun violence he advocated for, on his birthday.

How do yall feel about your rep showing up for this kind of man and never for you? We think we should take this opportunity to finally go and speak with them.

At this point we should be outside of every ICE detention facility 24/7. 

Ohioans will vote for a new governor, attorney general, auditor, secretary of state, and treasurer this November. As well as your local elections including congressmen, judges, commissioners and more. Ohio Supreme Court seats and a highly competitive congressional race are also among those to appear on the ballot. Our Supreme Court is majority republican and that needs to change.
